Ushering in a new era for Sandy River fish Fish once flourished in the long, shallow rapids and deep pools of the Sandy River Basin, with Coho salmon runs considered among the strongest on the Pacific Coast.
Today, while salmon and steelhead still return to the river, their numbers have dropped significantly. Coho salmon, winter steelhead and spring Chinook salmon have now all been listed as threatened under the U.S. Endangered Species Act throughout the lower Columbia.
